SSP Sinclair Running Dino 48'

Lot #15 (Sale Order 14 of 160)

One of the most recognizable names in petroleum advertising, Sinclair built its identity around the famous green dinosaur mascot that became an American roadside icon beginning in the 1930s. This impressive 48-inch single-sided porcelain and enamel sign features the seldom-seen running Dino graphic paired with illustrations of four Sinclair Dino motor oil cans, creating a highly detailed and visually engaging advertising piece that stands apart from the more commonly encountered Sinclair dinosaur signs. The sign showcases classic Sinclair colors of green, red, white, and black, with the bold Sinclair script logo prominently displayed beneath the motor oil can graphics and above the animated dinosaur mascot in motion. The slogan, Finest Motor Oils in the World, reinforces Sinclairs historic marketing efforts during the golden age of American service stations and petroleum advertising. Measuring approximately 48 inches in diameter, the large format provides exceptional display presence while allowing the detailed graphics and colorful imagery to command attention from across a room. Examples featuring multiple Sinclair oil can illustrations together with the running dinosaur motif are encountered far less frequently than standard Sinclair Dino signs, making this a particularly desirable piece for advanced collectors of petroleum advertising and Sinclair memorabilia. The combination of large size, porcelain and enamel construction, vibrant graphics, and one of the most beloved mascots in advertising history creates a centerpiece-quality display that appeals equally to collectors of automobilia, gas and oil advertising, and Americana. Large-format Sinclair porcelain signs continue to rank among the most sought-after pieces in the hobby, and this unusual 48-inch example offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a distinctive variation featuring both the iconic Dino mascot and Sinclairs historic motor oil packaging. With outstanding visual appeal and exceptional display presence, this sign represents a remarkable addition to any serious petroleum advertising collection.

DSP Lyon 48'

Lot #16 (Sale Order 15 of 160)

One of the most visually striking petroleum advertising signs of the pre-war era, this 48-inch double-sided porcelain and enamel Lion gasoline sign features the iconic leaping lion graphic associated with Lion gasoline during the late 1920s and 1930s. Designed to attract motorists and identify service stations from a distance, its bold red-and-white color scheme and dynamic imagery helped create a memorable brand identity. This example retains the desirable T.M. M.C.C. marking along the lower edge, a detail collectors associate with authentic period production. Measuring approximately 48 inches in diameter with porcelain enamel on both sides, it offers exceptional display presence and showcases the durable craftsmanship that made porcelain signs a staple of American service stations. The vivid graphics, strong contrast, and distinctive lion imagery make it a standout piece among gasoline advertising collectibles. Large double-sided Lion signs are increasingly difficult to acquire, especially in substantial sizes such as this 48-inch example. Their rarity reflects limited survival rates and lower production numbers compared to advertising from larger national petroleum companies. Today, surviving examples are highly sought after by collectors of gasoline, automobilia, and early American advertising. Combining impressive size, double-sided construction, period graphics, and strong visual appeal, this sign represents a rare opportunity to acquire an elusive and recognizable piece from the golden age of the American service station. Historical Note: The leaping Lion imagery is generally associated with Lion gasoline advertising from the late 1920s into the 1930s, making that period the most likely era this style of sign would have originally been displayed at service stations. The graphic and typography are representative of the Art Deco and early automotive-advertising era that collectors actively seek today.

SSP Pegasus 60'

Lot #17 (Sale Order 16 of 160)

Few advertising icons are as instantly recognizable as the Mobil Pegasus, the legendary red flying horse that became synonymous with American motoring, road travel, and the golden age of the service station. This impressive approximately 60-inch die-cut porcelain and enamel Pegasus sign features the desirable T-53 marking, a designation highly regarded among collectors of petroleum advertising. Originally displayed at Mobil service stations to attract motorists from great distances, the dramatic die-cut design and vivid red Pegasus created one of the most effective and enduring brand images in the history of American advertising. Introduced during the early decades of the automobile age, the Pegasus became Mobils primary symbol and quickly evolved into one of the most recognizable corporate logos in the world. Large die-cut porcelain examples such as this were produced to serve as prominent station-identification signs, often mounted high on poles, buildings, or canopies where they could be seen from approaching highways. The combination of true fired porcelain enamel construction, substantial size, and distinctive die-cut shape gives the sign exceptional display presence while embodying the craftsmanship and durability associated with authentic petroleum advertising of the period. Among gas and oil collectors, large porcelain Pegasus signs consistently rank among the most sought-after pieces in the hobby. Their universal recognizability extends well beyond petroleum collectors, appealing equally to enthusiasts of automobilia, transportation history, Americana, and vintage advertising. The desirable T-53 marking, large approximately 60-inch format, die-cut construction, and iconic Mobil imagery combine to create a centerpiece-quality display piece. Few signs better represent the romance of the American highway, making the Mobil Pegasus one of the true blue-chip classics in the world of porcelain advertising.

DSP SHELL 48'

Lot #18 (Sale Order 17 of 160)

This rare 48-inch double-sided porcelain and enamel Shell clamshell sign features the classic Shell pecten design, showcasing the highly desirable ribbed or fluted shell detailing that collectors often refer to as the feathered style. Introduced during Shells mid-century branding era, this iconic design became one of the most recognizable symbols in petroleum advertising and was prominently displayed at service stations throughout North America. The bold red Shell lettering against the bright yellow porcelain field creates exceptional visual appeal, while the distinctive scallop shape remains one of the most sought-after formats in gas and oil advertising. Displaying honest age-related wear and attractive patina, the sign retains outstanding color and gloss. The pre-drilled holes visible on the sign appear consistent with a previous mounting application and may have been added by a former owner for illumination or neon enhancement. The large 48-inch double-sided format offered maximum roadside visibility and would have served as a prominent branding piece at Shell service stations during the golden age of American motoring. Large porcelain Shell clamshell signs of this size and style are increasingly difficult to acquire. Auction records and collector offerings over the past several years indicate that only a limited number of comparable 48-inch double-sided examples have surfaced publicly, making them far less common than standard round or rectangular petroleum signs. Combining iconic Shell imagery, substantial size, strong display presence, and enduring collector demand, this impressive clamshell sign represents an exceptional opportunity for the serious gas and oil, automobilia, or advertising collector.

SSP Sinclair 60'

Lot #19 (Sale Order 18 of 160)

This approximately 60-inch single-sided porcelain and enamel Sinclair advertising sign features the companys iconic green dinosaur logo beneath the bold red Sinclair script, one of the most recognizable designs in petroleum advertising. The date code 10-7-69 places it in the late 1960s, when dinosaur-branded Sinclair signage was prominently displayed at service stations across the United States. By this period, Sinclairs Apatosaurus mascot was firmly established as the companys signature symbol, making signs from this era especially desirable to collectors of gas and oil memorabilia.

DSP Texaco 42'

Lot #20 (Sale Order 19 of 160)

This beautiful approximately 42-inch double-sided porcelain and enamel Texaco Motor Spirit / Motor Oil sign represents one of the most recognizable petroleum advertising designs ever produced. Featuring the iconic Texaco red star with green T logo and Registered Trade Mark wording displayed prominently on both sides, this sign reflects the branding style Texaco became famous for during the 1920s through 1940s. Signs of this type were commonly displayed at Texaco service stations, garages, filling stations, and roadside automotive businesses where visibility from both directions was essential. The bold circular design, vibrant red and white color combination, and unmistakable star logo made these signs highly effective advertising pieces during the golden age of American motoring. Texaco remains one of the most collected names in gasoline and petroleum advertising, and double-sided porcelain examples continue to be among the most desirable pieces within the hobby. The Motor Spirit wording is particularly appealing as it reflects terminology commonly used during earlier periods of petroleum marketing and international fuel branding. Combined with the large format, strong graphics, and classic Texaco star design, this sign offers outstanding display presence whether showcased in an automotive collection, garage setting, showroom, or petroleum advertising display. The addition of the Registered Trade Mark wording further enhances the vintage character and authenticity of the design. Comparable Texaco porcelain signs featuring the red star logo and early Motor Spirit branding have appeared through major advertising auctions and private collections over the past several years, though large double-sided examples remain considerably less common than standard single-sided service station signs. Collectors continue to pursue these pieces due to their strong crossover appeal among petroleum advertising enthusiasts, automobilia collectors, gas and oil memorabilia buyers, and Americana collectors alike. With its iconic branding, impressive size, double-sided construction, and timeless visual appeal, this Texaco sign stands as an outstanding representation of one of Americas most recognized petroleum companies and would make a centerpiece addition to any serious advertising collection

SSP BIG BOY " Bob's Welcome"

Lot #21 (Sale Order 20 of 160)

This impressive Bobs Big Boy Bobs Welcome single-sided porcelain and enamel advertising sign, measuring approximately 58 x 26 inches, captures one of the most recognizable restaurant mascots in American dining history. Featuring the iconic Big Boy character holding his signature hamburger and dressed in classic red-and-white checkered overalls, the sign delivers strong visual appeal through its bold colors, vibrant graphics, and exceptional display presence. Bobs Big Boy restaurants rose to prominence during the post-war era, expanding throughout California and much of the western United States before becoming a nationally recognized brand. Signs of this type were commonly used at restaurant entrances, in roadside advertising, and in promotional displays aimed at the growing automobile culture of the 1950s through the 1970s.The Big Boy mascot remains one of the most enduring figures in American advertising, making porcelain and enamel examples highly desirable among collectors of restaurant memorabilia, diner advertising, roadside Americana, and vintage commercial signage. Its large die-cut format provides impressive wall presence, while the registered trademark detail and instantly recognizable character enhance its collector appeal. Bobs Big Boy memorabilia continues to attract a dedicated following among advertising collectors and enthusiasts of classic American restaurant history. Large porcelain and enamel Bobs Big Boy character signs rarely appear on the open market compared to more commonly encountered restaurant advertising pieces. Recent auction results and collector offerings indicate that only a limited number of comparable large-format examples have surfaced publicly, making pieces of this size and visual impact increasingly difficult to obtain. Combining iconic imagery, restaurant history, a bright porcelain finish, and outstanding display qualities, this sign would make an exceptional addition to any advertising, diner, Americana, or restaurant-themed collection.
